Notable mortgage industry hires and promotions, September 14-September 18

 
Tyrrell

Ellie Mae has announced that Joe Tyrrell has been named president of ICE Mortgage Technology, a division within Ellie Mae’s new parent company, Intercontinental Exchange. He essentially succeeds former Ellie Mae CEO Jonathan Corr, who retired earlier this month. Tyrrell is a longtime member of Ellie Mae’s leadership team, joining the company in 2002 and holding the roles of executive vice president of corporate strategy; senior vice president of corporate strategy; senior vice president of client management and business development; and most recently, chief operating officer. He holds a bachelor of art degree in business management from St. Mary’s College.

 
Boyle

Roostify has announced that Chris Boyle has been appointed president of home lending. In this newly created role, she has responsibility for all external-facing functions, and she will lead the growth plan for Roostify to engage mortgage lenders across the country. As former chief client officer for Freddie Mac, Boyle has nearly 30 years of experience in the mortgage lending market.

 
Smith

Flagstar Bank has named Lee M. Smith, a seven-year veteran of the company, as president of mortgage. In his new role, he is responsible for the direction and oversight of all aspects of the business — mortgage sales, originations, servicing, fulfillment and the overall strategic growth of the mortgage and servicing business units. Smith joined Flagstar in 2013 as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

 
Volpe
 
Pfluger

CWDL has added Susan Volpe and Dustin Pfluger as director of accounting and consulting and partner of the Mortgage Banking division, respectively. In their new roles, Volpe will lead CWDL’s accounting team, while Pfluger will help lead the mortgage practice by providing additional expertise across CWDL’s nationwide client base. Volpe, who brings a human resources and accounting background of over 25 years, joins CWDL after previously running her own accounting services business and serving as chief financial officer for an independent mortgage company. Pfluger brings 16 years of public accounting experience — 11 of which have been in the mortgage industry — at firms like PricewaterhouseCoopers and Richey May. Volpe and Pfluger will be based in Boston and Austin, respectively.

Wierks

First American Financial Corporation has announced the appointment of Jon Wierks as vice president of its data and analytics division. In his new position, Wierks is responsible for further enhancing First American’s automated valuation and collateral risk analytics initiatives and products. Wierks joins First American with nearly three decades of experience in the real estate and valuation industry, including serving as principal of the science and analytics team at CoreLogic.

 
Netzer

Total Expert has announced Allison Netzer as its new chief marketing officer. In her new position, she will focus on developing cross-channel marketing campaigns, building out future product go-to-market strategies, and support Total Expert partners in deepening their customer engagement strategy. She brings over 20 years of industry knowledge to the role, most recently as senior vice president for strategy and marketing at Kony, Inc. Prior to that, she served as global marketing director at Dell.

Mortgage Connect has announced Amy Downey as the senior vice president of operational compliance for its Critical Borrower Communication division. Downey will use her two decades of banking industry experience to ensure adherence with regulatory obligations, risk management and efficiency improvement for clients’ communications with borrowers in originations, servicing, capital markets and other financial products.

 
Gersten

Sabal Capital Partners has announced it has appointed Barry Gersten to head of production for its Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) business. Based in New York, Gersten will oversee sales and production for Sabal’s CMBS platform, which finances all major commercial real estate asset classes nationwide. He originally joined Sabal in early 2020 as managing director. Prior to joining Sabal, he founded Bedrock Capital Associates and held the role of its managing principal. Additional prior roles include executive vice president and co-head of North American lending for Capmark Financial and vice president of Lehman Brothers.
