Notable mortgage industry hires and promotions, Feb. 24-Feb. 28

 
Flood

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) has announced the addition of Michael P. Flood as senior vice president of commercial/multifamily policy. Flood joins the MBA from the CRE Finance Council, where he served in several leadership positions, most recently as deputy executive director and head of the Washington, D.C. office. He also has held senior posts at the Structured Finance Industry Group, the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting, Fannie Mae and JPMG. In his new role, he will lead public policy and member engagement across commercial real estate finance sectors. He holds a master’s of business administration degree from Georgetown University and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Illinois.

 
Feliz

The MBA also has added Freddy Feliz as vice president of information technology (IT) and chief information officer. Feliz will be responsible for implementing and overseeing the MBA’s IT programs and projects, and developing new IT strategies. Feliz joins MBA from MERSCORP Holdings Inc., where he was senior vice president of information systems and chief information officer. He also has held leadership positions at Marketing1by1, Exmplar, WebMiner and GroupCards.com. He holds a master’s of science in computer science from City College of New York and a bachelor of science in electronics and telecommunications engineering from INTEC University.

 
Grassi

Guaranteed Rate has named Joseph Grassi as its chief risk officer, a new role created to oversee risk management and maintain strong compliance for the company. Before joining Guaranteed Rate, Grassi served as principal deputy general counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He also has served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Prospect Mortgage and spent more than 20 years at Fannie Mae as lead legal advisor. He holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Villanova University and a Juris Doctor from Villanova’s Charles Widger School of Law.

Dunlap

CMG Financial, a mortgage banking company headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, has announced the hiring of Tamara Dunlap as regional vice president of Colorado. She has more than 26 years of mortgage leadership experience at regional and national lenders throughout the western U.S., including companies such as CountryWide Home Loans, Matrix Financial Services and Capital Commerce/American Home Mortgage. Most recently, she spent four years as regional manager at CityWide Home Loans.

 
Phillips

San Francisco home-valuation fintech HouseCanary has added Craig Phillips as a senior advisor. Phillips most recently served as counselor to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, where he focused on policy development, debt management, fiscal operations and asset/liability management. He also has served as managing director of BlackRock (where he founded and led the Financial Markets Advisory Group) from 2008 to 2017, and as managing director at Morgan Stanley from 1994 to 2006.

 
Heiss

Tennessee-based Guaranty Home Mortgage Corp. (GHMC) has announced that Amber Heiss has joined the company as an account executive. Heiss, who has more than 10 years of mortgage lending experience, joins GHMC after serving as account executive at Franklin American Mortgage. She has a degree in art history from the University of Kansas. 

 
Oursler

Maryland-based VA mortgage company NewDay USA has appointed Michael Oursler as chief operating officer. Oursler has served as chief credit officer, senior vice president of operations and NewDay University, and vice president of capital markets throughout his eight years at NewDay USA. He earned a bachelor of science in finance from York College of Pennsylvania. He is currently an executive MBA candidate at Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is expected to graduate in spring 2020.
